Sir,
RAUDON FERRYTON, Forfarshire 2B.

I have the honor to ask for your favorable consideration of the following.
In Hongkong, the late Colonial Surgeon, Dr. Ayres, had in addition to his salary a house allowance of $90 per month. At the same time, he remained in the house at the hospital. My quarters, which were small and not suited for a married man, are now occupied by one of the junior surgeons in the Civil Service.
I have been informed privately by Dr. Atkinson, now Principal Medical Officer, that he is to remain at the hospital, and that I will probably be allowed $60 per month for house rent. I humbly submit that, if he finds it convenient and desires to remain in the house at the hospital, I should be granted $90 allowance instead of $60.
I am afraid that even $90 will not enable me to procure a satisfactory residence as house rent is so high at present that it is almost impossible...
